The Yellowstone Rendezvous Race is an annual event in West Yellowstone, Montana. Held for 34 years, this race features different activities, including a 2K, 5K, 10K, 25K , 25K classic and 50K. Participation in the sky races is dependent upon skiers’ abilities and ages.
Running concurrently, these races are the ultimate cross-country ski adventure across Montana’s vast wilderness. The popular 25-kilometer race begins at the old Union Pacific railroad bed, which is located on the south side of the city of West Yellowstone. With old-style black powder cannons marking the beginning of the race, the course winds through series of trees and over hills that range from 6,666 to 6,900 feet in elevation. The pinnacle offers a rewarding view over the nearby mountain terrain, which also features moderate uphill climbs. After 21 rewarding kilometers, the race turns into a downhill event. The 50-kilometer race requires completing this challenging route twice.
Racers receive monetary rewards for first, second and third places, including medals based on age groups. The event also offers raffle prizes for participants, which includes new boots, skies, bindings, training aids and ski clothing.
