Relax at Beautiful Hebgen Lake

Whether Yellowstone Holiday is your base camp or your destination, Hebgen Lake will provide the spectacular backdrop for your entire vacation. The lake’s sparkling alpine water stretches more than 16 miles long and up to 4 miles wide, so there’s plenty of room for everyone. Novice and experienced anglers alike can experience some of the finest dry fly lake fishing in North America, with rainbow and brown trout averaging around 14-18 inches long. If fishing isn’t your thing, you can tour around the lake on a sailboat, strap on some waterskis, leisurely paddle around in a canoe or kayak, or take a refreshing dip at our swimming beach. For non-marine activities, venture out on a nature walk along one of the feeder streams (watch for wildlife), a scenic hike up Mount Hebgen, or a thrilling single-track bike ride.

Wildlife

Don’t forget your binoculars! Situated only 13 miles from the West Entrance of Yellowstone National Park, it’s no surpise that Hebgen Lake boasts a variety of wildlife. Birdwatchers might spot sandhill cranes, herons, western grebes, white pelicans, osprey, Canadian geese, mallards, wood ducks, loons, and bald and golden eagles. Bison, deer, and moose can frequently be seen in the area and occasionally, elk, mountain goats and sheep, fox, coyote. Once in a blue moon, a wolf, black bear or grizzly bear wanders near the area.

Hiking. Biking. Locale Nature Trails

Beautiful Mount Hebgen, located right across the road from Yellowstone Holiday, has some of the best walking, hiking, and biking trails in the state. The Red Canyon Road, a half-mile from Yellowstone Holiday, provides access to a number of beautiful trails along feeder streams as well as the trailhead to hike Mount Hebgen. Mountain bikers can enjoy a leisurely ride along the 3-mile Red Canyon Road or head up Mount Hebgen for some technical and thrilling single track.
